Braeburn is about people.

All our staff are committed to Braeburn’s vision of every student being a successful learner, a confident individual and a responsible citizen. Our actions support this vision; we provide the best learning environment for every child to achieve their maximum potential by offering the National Curriculum of England and additional learning opportunities, such as arts, sports, outdoor learning, social responsibility, adapting to topics taught, and an extensive extracurricular programme to enhance, extend and internationalise the curricula. We have an open-door policy and welcome feedback from pupils and parents.

Braeburn began in Kenya. Today our campuses, communities and alumni reach across the continent and beyond. We prepare young people to have the confidence, curiosity and courage to go anywhere in the world and flourish.

04   One family of schools

Each Braeburn school has its own character, its own community, and its own story. Together we are one family, constantly learning from one another to elevate our standards, opportunities, and care across every campus. To belong to one is to belong to them all.

History

1968 – 1999

1968 | Joy Langley establishes Braeburn House International School.

1979 | Founding shareholders of Braeburn Limited acquire the school, officially renaming it Braeburn School.

1980 | Braeburn High School opens on the Gitanga Road Campus in Nairobi.

1982 | Braeburn High School moves to Braeburn Garden Estate.

1994 | Braeside Lavington Primary is launched.

1997 | Braeside Lavington High School welcomes its first secondary pupils.

2000 – 2015

2000 | Braeburn Arusha International School in Tanzania joins the group.

2003 | Braeburn High School returns to Gitanga Road, and a Sixth Form College opens at Braeburn Garden Estate.

2004 | Mombasa International School is acquired and renamed Braeburn Mombasa International School.

2007 | Kisumu International School joins as Braeburn Kisumu International School.

2008 | Podo School is acquired and renamed Braeburn Nanyuki International School.

2009 | Braeburn Garden Estate is established as a full school campus.

2011 | Imani School joins the group as Braeburn Imani International School (now Braeside Thika).

2015 | Braeburn Dar es Salaam opens in Tanzania.

2023 – Present

2023 |Hillcrest International School in Kenya, and The Earth School in Rwanda, join the group.

2025 | The International School of Cape Town in South Africa joins the group.

Built on a shared vision set by our founding members, Braeburn’s governance structure exists to empower our school-level leadership. By providing sound management and strategic oversight, our head office supports the handling of complex operational matters—allowing our school leaders and educational teams to focus on what matters most: delivering an outstanding education.

 

Our Regional Structure

Braeburn Limited serves as the parent company, providing overarching strategic guidance across our schools in East and Southern Africa. Our local operations are managed through distinct operating entities in each country:

Governance & Executive Management

To ensure high standards of accountability and balance, our Boards include non-executive members and are supported by dedicated board committees that safeguard independence and good governance.

In Kenya, our largest operation, day-to-day management is led by our CEO alongside a dedicated executive committee. Each member oversees specific operational areas, ensuring our schools receive hands-on support, clear direction, and the resources they need to thrive.
